Originally the Fiorino is a 24-carat gold coin weighing about 3.537 grams, first minted in 1252 in Florence.
This brass reproduction measures 18 mm in diameter and is sold in a rigid blue cardboard box, it represents a symbol of good luck.

It was the actor Paolo Belli Blanes, who is buried today in the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence, who also discovered its value as an amulet at the end of 1700. On the eve of a performance of Vittorio Alfieri's "Bruto" at the Teatro del Fondo in Naples, after finding a Fiorino in the street, he held it in his hand, clenched his fit and shouted grateful for his luck, "Viva Fiorenza" (Long live Fiorenza). The performance was a complete success and Belli Blanes became one of the mosto desired and controversial actors in all of Italy. (At the suggestion of his grandson, Alessandro Belli Blanes).
